The Russell Memorial Weekend 2006 |
Friday Night Concert The 12th festival commemorating the Russells took place in Doolin on Friday 24th to Sunday 26th of February 2006. It opened on Friday 24th at 8-30pm with a Local Night - a night of music, song, memories, and dance, a night to remember at the Russell Cultural Centre. Russell Concert On Saturday 25th at 2pm a concert with musician and broadcaster, Kieran Hanrahan RTÉ, featured many musical highlights. Amongst them was renowned Galway folk singer Seán Keane, who is considered one of Ireland's most talented and versatile singers. Seán's appearance in Doolin coincided with the release of his new album, River of Yesterday. The concert also featured performances from The Céilí Bandits, Adrian O'Connor & Andy Jones, Aidan Rynne and friends, Carrick-on-Suir poet Michael Coady, Seamus McGrath, sean nós dancer Paddy Neylon, Frank Custy's Group, and many more. Russell Remembrance Mass On Sunday the 26th Feb at 1 pm the Anniversary Remembrance Mass for the Russells will take place at Doolin Church to the accompaniment of hymns and songs from the Doolin church choir. It will be followed by a wreath-laying ceremony at the Russell grave, songs of farewell, and tunes. Set Dancing Set dancing will be help at 3pm on Sunday 26th of February at the Russell Cultural Centre, music by the Swallow's Tail Céilí Band. Music
Sessions
Events for the weekend also included the Monday night (Feb 27th) "festival wrap-up" sessions. Throughout the weekend there were many informal live music sessions in Doolin’s pubs and hotels. |
