|The Russell Memorial Weekend 2007|
The 13th festival commemorating the Russells took place in Doolin on Friday 23rd to Sunday 25th of February 2007. It opened on Friday 23rd at 8-30pm with a concert by Mártín O'Connor and friends.
Friday Night Concert
On Friday night February 23rd 2007 in the Russell Cultural Centre in Doolin, Co. Clare the renowned button accordion player Máirtín O'Connor performed with Sligo-born Séamie O’Dowd and the Co Tyrone fiddler Cathal Hayden.
The Russell concert on Saturday Feb 24th at 2pm featured performances from Tommy Peoples, Sean Garvey, Mickey Dunne, Gavin Whelan & Liam Meehan, Chris Droney, Paddy Hynes, Paddy Neylon, and Frank Custy's Group, and many more.
Russell Remembrance Mass
On Sunday the 23rd Feb at 1pm the Anniversary Remembrance Mass for the Russells was celebrated in Doolin Church to the accompaniment of hymns and songs from the Doolin church choir. It was followed by a wreath-laying ceremony at the Russell grave, with songs of farewell and tunes in memory of the dead.
After the Rusell Concert on Saturday 23rd Feb as usual there was an informal traditional singing recital at 6pm in the O'Gorman Room, Russell Cultural Centre, Adm Free
Set dancing was held at 3pm on Sunday 25th at the Russell Cultural Centre, music by Peter Griffin and the Four Courts Céilí Band.
Events for the weekend also included the Monday night (Feb 26th) "festival wrap-up" sessions and throughout the weekend there were many informal live music sessions in Doolin’s pubs and hotels.
